Coniferous Forests free essay sample
Where the tundra gives way to trees is called the evergreen coniferous forest or the taiga. A large portion of the earth is covered with coniferous forests extending to the warmer regions. The climate of the evergreen forests is pleasant in the summer with temperature rising into the eighties with cool evenings. Winters are usually very harsh dropping as low as -65 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas, but barely below freezing in others. The rainfall of this biome varies from 12 to 33 inches per year. Some of this moisture comes from snow and sleet. Some of the smaller trees can become completely covered in snow. Oddly enough this snow covering protects the small trees from intense cold and dehydration that can occur. The sides of many mountains are covered with coniferous forests. The trees on the sides of the mountain are thin so that the snow will slide off of them without breaking them. Their sturdy, weather resistant needles can last for over a year. Needles resist harsh weather while conserving water and making food through photosynthesis. Even after an intense winter, as soon as the weather is warms enough the needles are ready to go back to work. The trees also have a tough and thick bark that can help resist summer fires. The evergreens trees produce seeds in cones, and use wind for pollination. Since the trees are so close wind pollination is extremely easy. If you go into a densely populated forest in the spring you can often see that the air will be yellow because of floating pollen.

Hip Hop Exploitation of Black Women free essay sample
Two videos correlated to my research paper. One in particular is called the Dreamless 3: Desire, Sex and power in music video. This video written by Suit Shall, examines the representation of women, men, and sexuality in music videos. In essence, the purpose of this video is to assert that music videos, not unlike other forms of advertising and popular culture, represent the pornographic Image by offering a degraded and limited view of female sexuality based on narrowly defined adolescent heterosexual male fantasies. In greater detail, this film Is fairly modern and encompasses the similar Instances of how not only women, but both male and females are gazed upon through music videos. This film Is very popular for addressing the video Tip Drill, which Is a term that refers to women having sex with multiple men In exchange for money. In Dalton, the rapper In this same music video, Newly swipes a credit card through a womans backside. We will write a custom essay sample on Hip Hop Exploitation of Black Women or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I was very disturbed at the music video Tip Drill, I could not believe how explicit this video was and how the died was still being played continuously on B.E. T. And MET. Another film that relates to this topic is called Beyond, Beats, and Rhymes by Byron Hurt. I saw this film in my African American Studies 248 course and was immediately intrigued by the way in which this film examines manhood, homophobia in the hip hop culture, and last but not least, sexism. Both of these films have a lot of similarities such as challenging the way in which hip hop has changed for the worst and poses questions as to how we can fix it back to its natural root.

The Grapes of Wrath, written by John Steinbeck, is Essay a story about a familys epicStruggles of survival during the time of the depression. Tom, the eldest son of the JoadFamily, finds himself in a unique when he must leave his home and head out toCalifornia with his family. As Tom and his family headed West on their journey, hefound himself as the leader of the family after his grandpa had died and his fatherwas not thinking straight. Throughout the journey, Tom and his mother took care of thefamily and did the best they could to maintain order in the family. Tom was a good, reasonable person. Sure he had been locked in Prison for fouryears, but that was only because he got in a drunken fight and killed a man with ashovel. But Tom was only defending himself, he didnt mean to kill the man, but he did. In prison, Tom kept to himself and didnt talk much. He probably figured that was theonly way he was going to get out of prison sooner. And his patience paid off, because hewas released in four years, instead of seven. When Tom got home, he realized thatnothing was left. All of the houses were torn down and everyone was gone. If Tom hadntseen his old neighbor Muley, he might have never seen his family again. After Muley hadtold Tom that his family was with his Uncle John, he set out to his Uncles house withhis old friend, Casy. As soon as Toms mother saw him standing in the doorway, she wasso happy that Her head sank slowly to her side and the fork she was holding in herhand hit the floor (Steinbeck 80). After Tom had re-acquainted himself with everyone inhis family, they all sat down and had breakfast. After breakfast, they all discussed andplanned their journey to California. Since he was out on parole, he couldnot leave the state, or else he would get sent back to jail for the remaining three years ofhis sentence. But, Tom realized that his family needed him with them, so he decided to gowith them. Besides, Tom figured that if he just did not get into any trouble in California,he would be fine. Tom and his family left the next morning at daylight. They tookHighway 66, the main migrant road across the country (Steinbeck 127). The trip was along one, But Tom and his family managed to get there. Unfortunately, Toms familysuffered many losses. Toms grandpa died on the way to California, and Toms grandmadied in California, but she wasnt able to see the mountains and great valleys ofCalifornia. Noah, Toms brother, got left behind somewhere in the Mojave Desert becausehe just walked away down a river. Casy, made it to California, but he w as taken into jailfor hitting a cop at one of the Hoovervilles. Once Tom and his family found work, timeswere not that bad. But when they could not find any work, things got bad. So Tom andhis family had to leave the first couple of places they stayed at because they needed foodand money. Tom realized that his family needed someplace they could go to where theywould be treated good and where they could be clean. He decided to take his family toone of the government camps that people had been talking about. So Tom took his familyto a government camp and they lived pretty good, but only for a short while. .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 , .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .postImageUrl , .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 , .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:hover , .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:visited , .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:active { border:0!important; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:active , .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3 .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u60a3f279a9ebb75622ada628d2194bd3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Cano-1 EssayAt the government camp, life was good. There were bathrooms, showers, and placesto wash clothes. Tom and his family lived for only a month. They would have stayedlonger, but the family could not find work. So Tom and his family set off. They hadheard of some possible work not too far away. When they got to Hooper Ranch, the copslined them up on the road and sent them in to the ranch. The work there wasnt sogood. They were paid five cents for every box of peaches that they picked. Things wouldnot have gotten so bad if Tom had not attacked a cop. But Tom only did it in selfdefense. Besides, the cop that he hurt had killed his old friend Casy, right in front of hi sface. Tom had met up with Casy the night that he hurt the cop. It turns out that Casyhad gotten to Hooper Ranch before Tom and his family. Casy said that when he arrived, they were offering only two and a half cents per box of peaches. So, Casy and his newfriends protested. Thats why the wage went up to five cents, because were needed to pickthe peaches. But as soon as the cops stopped the protest, the wage was going back downto two and a half cents. Well after Tom had been beaten for what he did, he went backto his shelter and told his family what had happened. They all decided that they shouldleave immediately. But Tom hesitated. He knew that if they left, the cops would belooking for him. But Toms mother would not let him leave. She pleaded him to stay andfinally Tom agreed. He probably realized that he would be better off with his family forthe time being. So the Joad family left Hooper Ranch and set off to someplace else. Onthe road, the Joad family found a place where there we re many abandoned boxcars wherethey could live. They settled down there and began looking for a job. They found a jobpicking cotton, but that job soon was gone because of all the people that were picking. Tom on the other hand, was hiding. He had agreed with his mother to stay hidden atleast until his wounds healed up. Tom didnt like the idea, he still preferred going offsomewhere in his own, but he agreed to stay. Toms secrecy was soon broken when hissister Ruthie had threatened a girl that her big brother would beat up the other girlsbrother. But also Ruthie also mentioned that he had already killed two men and was outhiding waiting to kill another. As soon as Mrs. Joad heard about this, she knew she hadto tell her son to flee. Tom was not too happy about her offering him money to leave, but he knew it was for the best, so he took the money. After Mrs. Joad returned to theboxcars, it began to rain heavily and the cars became flooded. The Joad family knew theyhad to leave, so they did. The family found A rain-blackened barn that was just acrossthe highway (Steinbeck 498). The family went there and received shelter from the heavyrain. In conclusion, Tom was a person who took responsibility for his actions. He tookcare of his family when they needed him the most, but in the end, he did what was bestfor the family, he left them. He knew that if he had stayed, he would have only been aburden to them because the cops would have been looking for him. Besides, he knew thathe would have put his family in danger if he had stayed. .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 , .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .postImageUrl , .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 , .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:hover , .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:visited , .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:active { border:0!important; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:active , .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34 .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u81eea322d5fb2025df60457b82d4df34:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Racial Profiling EssayBibliographyWorks CitedSteinbeck, John. The Winning Goal essays
The Winning Goal essays After a difficult combat season the varsity soccer team played their last game before districts. The game determined if the team went to districts and if they did win, what they would rank. For a school known exclusively for academics we wanted to shine. The scoreboard glowed with the tie score of one to one after a 90-minute game leaving both teams exhausted and anxious at the same time. We stopped for a five-minute break while our goalie powdered her gloves and got ready to go back into the goal. Penalty Kicks, although nerve wrecking, would reveal the final winner. Coach Bayles picked five girls to take the kicks; the outcome of the game depended on them. Kicker one-leslie, Kicker two-Maria, Kicker three- Melissa... as my coach called out names my stomach tightened. My heart came up to my throat and I did not want to set my sight on him for fear he would pick me. I did not want to cause the loss for my team. My legs fidgeted nervously as I starred down at my cleats digging into the ground. When I heard my name my whole stomach turned upside down; I felt nauseous. The five selected players stood up and walked toward the midfield. We sat down quietly with out speaking until it came our turn to kick, rotating off with the opposing team. The opposing teams first two players scored and so did ours. Two to two, a good start, until unfortunately they made their third kick and we missed ours. Two to three, the South Ridge coach yelled from the sideline, We have this girls. I remember looking back toward the bench where the rest of our team sat holding hands. Both our coaches stood leaning on the orange water jug with their large cups of water for their extra dry cotton throats. The reaction resulted from the excessive screaming during the game and at this point their nerves kept them immobile and silent. The other players remained silent also. No one carried conversations ...

Folding and Aggregation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Folding and Aggregation - Essay Example The three dimensional structures of proteins aid in delineating protein functions at a molecular level and the structure of proteins are determined usually with X ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy etc. Some structural features of proteins would be necessary to perform certain biochemical functions although multifunctional and structural proteins may have higher number of residues than the average of 300 residues. Large aggregates are formed as a result of folding from protein subunits and actin molecules also assemble into actin filaments. The protein structure has four distinct features including amino acid sequence of peptide chains as seen in a primary structure, secondary structures which are regular sub structures, such as strands of beta sheet, tertiary structure as seen in the three dimensional structure of a single protein molecule and quaternary structure which represents a complex of polypeptide chains and protein molecules (Copley, 1997; Berg, 2002). Proteins tend to transition between structures to perform the biological functions and this would be known as conformational changes. The primary structure of proteins with amino acid sequences would be held together by covalent peptide bonds and the extremities of the amino acid chains are known as carboxy terminus (C - terminus) and amino terminus ( N -terminus). The secondary structures are defined by their patterns of hydrogen bonds between the peptide groups although these bonds are generally not too stable except in conditions when the water concentration is low as in molten globule or fully folded states (Urbanc et al, 2006). The non specific interactions and propensities of amino acids would lead to the formation of molten globules. The tertiary structure shows structurally specific interactions within the protein domain with side chains and hydrogen bonds. The disulfide bonds tend to stabilize the tertiary structures of extra cellular proteins and reduce entropy in an unfolded state. The 4 levels of protein structure are given diagrammatically as follows - Figure I - From Columbia.edu, biology courses, 2005 handouts The formation of proteins could be explained as the combination of two amino acids in a condensation reaction and long chains of residues such as amino acids in peptide bond. The sequence of amino acids forms the primary structure of the peptide or protein and is determined by a gene. Within the primary structure, a sequence of nucleotides in DNA is transcribed into mRNA and this is translated by a ribosome and the sequence tends to define the structure and functions of the protein and would be unique to any specific protein. Determining the sequence of nucleotides within the primary structure would actually help in defining the protein (Berg, 2002; Copley, 1997). In the secondary structure, alpha helix and beta sheet saturate the peptide and secondary structures tend to occur most frequently in most proteins. The secondary structure elements tend to have a regular geometry with specific values and are usually folded into a shape with loops and turns (Berg, 2002, Copley, 1997). Terti ary structures are formed with interactions such as hydrogen bonding and ionic interactions and

Air Pollution Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Air Pollution - Research Paper Example Both humans as well as the nature have been held responsible for the emission of pollutants in the air. The emission of these pollutants is the reason behind the occurrence of air pollution. Various human activities have been found to heavily contribute to the increase in air pollution. One of the human activities that are constantly increasing the levels of air pollution is the emission of harmful gasses from organizations that produce goods to satisfy human needs. The most common form of air pollutants that is emitted by the industries includes carbon monoxide as well as other chemicals. Another reason due to which pollutants are released in air is the burning down of fossil fuels through airplanes as well as automobiles. Individuals try to keep their homes as well as crops free from insects and pests with the assistance of pesticides and other clearing products and these products release harmful chemicals that result in air pollution. According to Jacoby, the vehicles that travel o n road account for more than 90% of the carbon dioxide. Those who are harming the environment are those who are being negatively impacted by their own actions. Air pollution has been found to be negatively impacting all living things including plants, animals as well as hum beings. Air pollution has been found to result in impacting human health in a negative manner and these effects are both long term as well as short term. The level of impact is directly correlated with the level and length of time an individual is being exposed to these pollutants

The Attitude of the Youth towards Classical Music Essay
The Attitude of the Youth towards Classical Music - Essay Example There is a need o discuss the opinions of the youth on the subject.à .à Personal preferences and liking haveà a strong link to the field of consumer behavior. Personal choices of the consumer depend on the background they come from and the life style they lead. Music is enjoyed by almost all segments of the population. Each segment has their own tastes of music, they may vary from soulful to rock, pop and even classical music. The section liking classical music is reducing and especially in the younger generation. we donââ¬â¢t find many people that like classical music.à According to Philip Hartà (1973), the data available of the entire mass of the American orchestra depicts that the information is less concrete considering any aspect related to its audience. The symphony orchestra has diversified instruments; with time the composers have to work with complex things and their works written are more intricate that are suitable to the artistic needs required (Unger-Hamilton et. al 1988).Traditional music has become obsolete in todayââ¬â¢s lifestyle, and the essence of music is focused more towards the bodily rhythmic movementsà and the catchy notesà that provides, rather than the main influenceà and quintessence of the form o f classical music. The need for classical music has been eradicated and the thirst for pop music is both commanding and influential.à Classical music is considered as the most primitive form of music. Sadly, the youth today gives no importance and holds no desires to learn classical music.à In many cultures the study of classical music was a must but youth nowadays are losing interest in learning this genre of music. In this chapter the topic of classical music will be introduced giving an introduction related with the younger generation.à The history of classical music will be observed and its quintessential nature will be brought into discussion.
